Kim Zambrano As a thrill-seeking paramedic, Zambrano has had some tough times. Following a suicide attempt, Kim made the slow ascent back to reality, with her young son Joey as her main motivation. She and her ex-husband, firefighter Jimmy Doherty, often argue over who is better equipped to care for their son, but they both have their own demons to battle. Zambrano often works with paramedic Monte "Doc" Parker.

Jimmy is a firefighter on the FDNY. He is one of the best firefighters on the squad. He will always risk his life to save an innocent victim or even a co-worker from harm. Jimmy has a seven year old son named Joey, and is divorced from Kim Zambrano, a fellow paramedic. Jimmy also had many gambling problems and sometimes comes up a little short on child support, but he truly does care for Joey. Jimmy was recently divorced a 2nd time from a girl named Brook who was a police officer. The marrage ended when Jimmy cheated on Brook with his best friend's girlfriend. This girlfriend is now supposedly pregnant with Jimmy's baby and they are not going to tell Jimmy's best friend that it's not his. Jimmy has many problems he needs to sort out. As of now Jimmy has custody of his son, Joey, after Kim had to give him up after she tried to kill herself after Bobby died. Jimmy is now becoming more responsible with his son.

Monte Parker, also known as Doc, is a paramedic on the FDNY. Doc has been doing this for many years. Like Sullivan, he has to show the new guy, Carlos, how things work in the FDNY. Doc who was widowed seven years ago, and used to date Dr. Morales, a doctor from Angel of Mercy's ER, someone who Carlos has had his eye on. Doc and Dr. Morales eventually got engaged, and then Dr. Morales was offered a new position in Chicago. Doc couldn't leave NYC behind because he had lived there his whole life, so he and Dr. Morales broke up.

Doc and Carlos don't often agree on the same things, this can sometimes lead to trouble, but Doc does the best he can to keep things under control. Doc, tends to get involved in his patient's lives after he helps them, something Carlos doesn't agree with. Doc just wants to help people the best he can. This is why he is always up for the best paramedic awards. This got him on a paramedic show where they rode around with him all day and filmed. One thing got caught on film was this bad accident scene. There was a kid who hurt his neck so of course they put a C collar on. The kid also needed a breathing tube and it wouldn't fit down the airway with the collar. Doc kept telling Kim to take the collar off but she refused because one the collar is on you're not supposed top take it off. Doc took a risk and took it off in order to get the tube in so the kid could breathe. Everyone praised Doc because he saved the kid's life, including the kid's father. It turned out that the kid was paralyzed and it could've been caused because Doc took the C collar off. The news got around and one of Doc's friends, Jerry -who used to be a paramedic but now works for a lawyer- told Doc there could be a lawsuit. Doc worked with him to get it dropped and eventually it was because the kid was regaining function. The tape of the accident scene was never used on TV. It was destroyed.

Carlos is the new guy on the FDNY. He works with Monte Parker, also known as Doc. Carlos causes alot of trouble at times, especially when he was working with Alex Taylor. He is easily upset and sometimes stereotypes people. He is hard to get along with. He is always chasing girls. Carlos has dreams of becoming a doctor and is trying to balance his studies with his job as a paramedic. This doesn't seem like it will work out because an old girlfriend of his just died. The girlfriend's sister just came back to find Carlos to tell him he's the father of her sister's baby. This is now a new responsibility for him. He is unsure of whether he'll raise her or not. He doesn't want her to end up in child services because Carlso grew up there himself and he hated it.

Alex Taylor is the new firefighter at the FDNY. She is also the only female firefighter. She also used to be a paramedic, so sometimes she splits her time between being a paramedic and a firefighter. We don't know a whole lot about her yet. We know that she used to date Bobby before he was killed. We also know that she tried to sue a firefighter at her old firehouse for harrasment. Alex is a very tough woman who tries to just fit in with the guys, and the guys don't seem to mind. She was paired with Carlos on her paramedic shift and it didn't work out so she switched to work with Kim. Alex had to be switched back to being a paramedic after the Sept 11 attacks. They needed more paramedics and Alex is stressed out. Unfortunatly her father, a former fire cheif, was recently killed in the attacks. Alex is now recovering from this and has started to date Ty Davis on the NYPD.

Roberto Caffey, also called Bobby, was a paramedic of the FDNY. Bobby really cared about all his patients and also his partner, Kim. He fell in love with Kim, but it was never to be, because Kim pushed him away. Bobby ended up being killed by his friend, Pauly. His friend was hooked on drugs and he was only trying to help him get clean. When he flushed Pauly's drugs diwn the toilet, Pauly shot him. Before that Bobby helped his teacher die, when she was very sick. He came from a large family and he often visited him mom who lives in the city. He had a brother who was a drug addict, and Bobby tried to help him get clean. The brother gave up and kept stealing from everyone so Bobby told him to leave and never come back. He never saw his brother again. Before he died, Bobby and Alex started to like each other. This was after Kim pushed him away. Bobby is one character that will be greatly missed.
